Gord McFarlane is the managing partner of the national specialist advisory services group of Grant Thornton LLP, and is also a managing director of Grant Thornton Corporate Finance Inc. Gord is a member of the firm’s national leadership team, a past member of the firm’s board and a current member of the Grant Thornton International advisory services committee. He is responsible for a variety of services under the advisory umbrella across Canada including business risk services, corporate finance, forensic and investigative accounting and recovery and reorganization.
Prior to taking on a national role, Gord spent five years as the managing partner of the Alberta business unit overseeing services in all areas including audit, tax and advisory. Gord has over 25 years of financial advisory, audit, accounting and senior financial management experience both at Grant Thornton LLP and while working for several years as the CFO of a large transportation group.
Gord specializes in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, business valuations and corporate finance. As a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) with over 15 years of experience, he has provided services to a significant number of companies in a wide range of industries. Gord has prepared valuation reports and financial analysis for a variety of purposes including acquisitions or divestitures of businesses, corporate and tax driven reorganizations, going private and related party transactions, income trust conversions, shareholder disputes and buyouts, stock options and matrimonial property matters. Gord has provided expert witness testimony in provincial courts in Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba.
