Welcome to The Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators' (CICBV) Programme of Professional Studies. The Professional Programme is a big step in your journey towards achieving your goal of becoming a recognized expert in the field of business valuation, a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV). The CICBV offers a comprehensive Programme of Studies in Business and Securities Valuation designed to assist professionals to meet the challenging dynamics of business valuation, litigation and corporate finance. Students will be provided with a sound working knowledge of business and securities valuation theory and the ability to apply this theory in practice.
In order to obtain the CBV designation, an individual must:
1. Complete six (6) courses:
Four (4) Core Courses:
Introductory Business and Securities Valuation
Intermediate Business and Securities Valuation
Advanced Business and Securities Valuation
Law and Tax
Two (2) electives from the following:
Litigation I (on-line)
Litigation II (on-line)
Private Company Finance (on-line)
Restructuring (on-line)
Public Companies (on-line)
Introduction to Valuation for Financial Reporting (on-line)
2. Work experience: have accumulated 1,500 hours of business & securities valuation experience. The experience should be attested by a sponsor. Please see Business Valuation Experience requirement Policy and Sponsorship Policy.
3. Degree: have a degree from a post-secondary academic institution or university in Canada or other country. The requirement for a degree from a post-secondary academic institution or university will be waived for an individual who holds a Canadian designation of Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified General Accountant (CGA) or Chartered Accountant (CA). 4. Entrance Exam: achieve a passing grade on the Membership Entrance Examination (MEE).
