What are the Educational requirements to register in the program of studies?

In order to obtain the CBV designation, an individual must have a degree from a post-secondary academic institution or university in Canada or other country.

The requirement for a degree from a post-secondary academic institution or university will be waived for an individual who holds a Canadian designation of Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified General Accountant (CGA) or Chartered Accountant (CA). Please see Education Requirement Policy.

Also, because of the technical nature of the material covered in the Programme, students should have a basic knowledge of accounting and financial statement analysis (typically acquired at the equivalent of at least a university undergraduate level).

How long is the Program?

The Programme is designed to be completed within a three-year period, however, those individuals who are active in this area of practice and have achieved the required practical experience, may complete the program sooner.

The ten courses are offered every semester (see Curriculum), allowing students to take the required six courses at their own pace.

How many courses can I take per semester?

The number of courses to be taken per semester is ultimately the decision of the student. The three Business Valuation courses should be taken in order (the Law & Tax course can be taken at any time, or with any of the Introductory, Intermediate or Advanced Business Valuation courses). The two electives can be taken at any time.

If the decision is to take two courses per semester, then a student should consider taking an elective as one of the two courses.

How much study time does each course require?

Each course requires approximately 70 hours of study time.  This can vary slightly by course and by the student's level of knowledge and experience in the subject matter.

A registration form must be submitted. This is not an authomatic process. Please contact the York University and the CICBV in writing if you wish to defer.
